About the Founder of Wild - Valerie Outram

Valerie-Outram-at-Elephant-Sanctuary-in-NairobiValerie at Elephant Sanctuary In NairobiValerie spent her early childhood in Kenya, quite literally outside from morning till night, climbing trees, trying to ride on the back of the family Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog, accompanying her dad on his safaris – basically, running a bit wild!

So it was with some nostalgia that she returned as an adult with her partner Kevin Catton to undertake a huge journey across all of the country.

Talking along the way to local people the idea for 'Wild' was born.

There were clearly major efforts being made by the Kenyan conservation movement to encourage the local farmers to utilise the fantastic trees and plants around them rather than clear them or use for firewood. lake nakuruKevin at Lake Nakuru

This had created a good supply of high quality oils and fantastic plant extracts but demand from international markets was needed to make a sustainable business for local producers.

Having spent her twenties as a model working with top photographers and make up artists in beauty campaigns, Valerie knew that there was a quality and purity in what she was seeing. It only took a sample of some of the locally produced creams made from the local oils to convince Valerie that people in Europe were missing something. It is not just Shea Butter that Africa has to offer – there are so many                                                                                 other ingredients waiting to be discovered.
