Myth and Legend surrounds the extraordinary looking Baobab tree. It is said that because God was so displeased by the taste of the fruit of the baobab that he turned it upside down so that its roots are on top.
Its oil though is a different matter!
We certainly are very pleased with it – the seeds from the Baobab are taken and pounded and used in Africa to relieve aches and pains and rheumatism but more especially to treat skin complaints such as eczema and psoriasis.
Baobab oil is ideally suited to be used as a massage oil as tests have revealed that the kernal is rich in protein and thiamine and the oil is non drying and consists of palmitic, oleic and stearic acids.
The Baobab tree is reputed to have the thickest trunk, used in the Sudan to store water, and to be the longest- lived of any tree in the world and is known to achieve ages of up to 3000years.
Using its oil in our creams can help these beautiful ancient trees being chopped down and used simply for firewood.
